Chubb Fire Showcases the Future of Fire Detection Technology

LONDON, August 15, 2007 - Chubb Fire is showcasing its new Controlmaster 1000 fire detection solution as part of the ‘Schools of the Future’ project led by the Building Research Establishment (BRE).  Chubb Fire is part of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

The BRE is a UK based group that provides consultancy and commissioned research services to the building and construction industries and its main objective is to highlight new construction methods that enable smarter, more sustainable buildings.

As part of the project, the BRE constructed a full scale model of a school to demonstrate the energy efficient and intelligent building technologies of the future.  Chubb’s Controlmaster 1000 was selected by NG Bailey, one of the principal project partners, as the fire detection solution.

Chubb’s system was selected because of its flexibility, particularly its ability to integrate with other building technologies like CCTV, which will enable a school to see an incident as it occurs and to plan the appropriate response.

“Controlmaster 1000 was designed with the future in mind,” said Graham Faulkner, Product and Technical Manager, Chubb Fire.  “The system is fully IP functional which will enable users to monitor their alarm systems from their PC or laptop.  This is especially beneficial for Local Education Authorities (LEAs) who are responsible for multiple buildings or sites.”

“Controlmaster 1000 will also have the ability to network several fire panels together and will provide increased levels of false alarm management and reduction due to its enhanced analysis capabilities,” explained Faulkner.

The model school opened in June, and will remain on the BRE site for the next two years, during which time it will be used as a showcase and demonstration site to interested schools and other potential customers.

Chubb Fire provides fire safety products and services which help organisations to prevent, detect, contain and escape fire. Operating out of a national network of local branches in the UK, Chubb has more than 100 years experience in the fire and security industry with over 8000 employees in the UK.  Chubb is part of UTC Fire & Security, which provides fire safety and security solutions to more than one million customers around the world.  Headquartered in Connecticut, UTC Fire & Security is a business unit of United Technologies Corp., which provides high technology products and services to the building and aerospace industries worldwide.  More information can be found at www.utcfireandsecurity.com.
