ROPCZYCE, September 12, 2007 - Gloria GmbH, a leading manufacturer of portable fire extinguishers, today announced the opening of a new facility with an initial annual production capacity of 2.4 million extinguishers in Ropczyce, Poland.   Gloria is part of UTC Fire & Security, which is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

The new state of the art, 13,500 square meter facility was built in less than a year.  It combines best practices from UTC Fire & Security’s operating system known as Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE).  The new facility will manufacture portable fire extinguishers, including dry-chemical, water/foam and CO2, from 1 kg to 12 kg for industrial, automotive and commercial applications.

“This new facility gives us additional capacity to keep pace with growing demand and builds on existing relationships and infrastructure that UTC has in the area through WSK-PZL Rzeszów,” said Marek Skalski, General Manager of the new factory.

Skalski said women constitute a significant proportion of the workforce in a region where unemployment among women is particularly high. The facility employs approximately 250 employees locally.

Gloria recently relocated production from Wadersloh in Germany to Poland.  Gloria’s HQ, finance management, sales and marketing, purchasing logistics, quality certification and R&D departments remain in Wadersloh, Germany.
