Chubb Integrates New System for Hong Kong International Airport

HONG KONG, October 15, 2007 - Chubb Hong Kong has been awarded a contract to implement a hybrid analogue/digital CCTV system for the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), the fifth busiest international passenger and cargo airport in the world.   The contract covers installation of the new system, upgrades to the existing CCTV system and the incorporation of a new digital storage system.  Chubb Hong Kong is part of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

“Chubb Hong Kong’s expertise in systems integration and sound product knowledge were key factors in our selection,” said Joseph Cheung, General Manager, Chubb Hong Kong Electronics Security Division.  “We worked very closely with HKIA to ensure that the new digital system interfaces seamlessly with the current communications sub-systems and to minimize any disruption in operations during the installation.”

New CCTV cameras will be placed in strategic locations throughout the airport terminal such as gate doors, terminal exits and the baggage area.  Furthermore, Chubb will program the system’s cameras to transmit signals to the other security devices once an alarm is triggered due to a security violation.

“Digital CCTV systems like HKIA’s are more cost effective, faster and easier to manage than analogue systems and are becoming increasingly more popular as end-users begin to realize these benefits,” said Mark Brisson, Managing Director for Chubb and Guardforce Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.  “Digital systems also require less storage space, produce higher quality images and are easier to operate and install.”

Chubb is part of UTC Fire & Security, which provides fire safety and security solutions to more than one million customers worldwide.
