UTC Fire & Security Exhibits at Greenbuild

FARMINGTON, Conn., November 7, 2007 – UTC Fire & Security will showcase some of its innovative, environmentally friendly, fire safety and security solutions at this week’s Greenbuild International Conference & Expo, held in Chicago at the new McCormick Place West Building.  The conference draws more than 20,000 people from all over the world and offers attendees three days of educational sessions, LEED® workshops, and an exhibit hall packed with 800 booths displaying the newest green building technologies, products, and services.  UTC Fire & Security is a business unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

“UTC Fire & Security is committed to staying at the forefront of new legislation and changing environmental standards,” said William Brown, President, UTC Fire & Security.
“We are also focused on continuously growing our global portfolio of green technologies such as our Hi-Fog fire suppression system, which utilizes specially designed nozzles to decrease the size of each water droplet.  As a result, the system uses less water than conventional sprinkler systems and poses no threat to the environment.”

Other green fire suppression products include the Kidde Novec extinguishing system which uses heat absorption and molecular level chemistry to rapidly put out fires and has a low global warming potential rating of one, an ozone depleting potential of zero and an atmospheric lifetime of only five days.

Additionally, UTC Fire & Security’s energy management system uses sensors to detect a room’s occupancy and automatically resets the temperature to pre-defined conservation levels when unoccupied.  This technology reduces energy consumption by an average of 35% or more.

In addition to UTC Fire & Security, UTC Power, Carrier and Otis also attended from UTC.   The U.S. Green Building Council is the nation's leading coalition of corporations, builders, universities, federal and local agencies, and nonprofit organizations working together to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. Greenbuild as well as the LEED® Green Building Rating SystemT are programs of the USGBC. For more information on the USGBC, visit www.usgbc.org.
