Chubb Launches New Fire Detection System

SYDNEY, December 17, 2007 – The New South Wales Rural Fire Service (NSWRFS) is taking action to prepare for this summer’s serious fire threat by launching the nation’s first trial of ForestVu, an advanced digital video smoke detection system from Chubb Fire Safety.

Jointly developed by Chubb Fire Safety, in partnership with the U.K. based D-Tec, a world leader in the development of video smoke detection technology, ForestVu will provide early detection of bush and forest fires.

Accessed via the Internet, the ForestVu system also provides continuous monitoring and recording of incoming video streams from forested areas, distributing information directly to fire and emergency services. Alarms can be generated from any camera, and users can access recorded or live images from any NetVu connected unit on the network.

“ForestVu’s advanced capabilities will enable rural fire services to respond swiftly to major fire threats,” said Graham Harris, General Manager, Chubb Fire Safety, who demonstrated ForestVu for the NSWRFS.   “ForestVu’s ability to generate advanced warnings, stream live video and safely record video footage remotely will be invaluable during the fire season.”
