Shanghai KEN to Secure Shanghai’s New Subway Line


SHANGHAI, March 20, 2008 – Shanghai KEN E.L.V. System Engineering Co., Ltd. (Shanghai KEN) was recently awarded a contract by the Shanghai Subway Line 7 Development Company to provide fire safety and security systems for the new subway Line 7 and its northern extension into Shanghai, China. The contract covers design, supply and installation of fire detection, fire alarm and access control systems for a total of 33 stations, control rooms and two parking lots. Shanghai KEN is part of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

This is Shanghai KEN’s second recent subway project win, as they were also selected to upgrade the building automation systems for Shanghai Line 1 in 2007.

Shanghai is the largest city in China with a population of more than 20 million. The city launched its first subway line in 1995 and has been continuously expanding its subway systems since in order to keep pace with its surging population.

The 35km Line 7 is expected to be completed by September 2009 and will be utilized as a major public transportation vehicle for the World Expo in 2010. It is estimated that Line 7 will reach a daily capacity of over 120,000 passengers during the Expo.
