Hamburg, Germany (September 1, 2009) - Chubb Nord-Alarm is providing a comprehensive array of fire detection and electronic security systems at Germany’s new Klimahaus climate museum in Bremerhaven.  Chubb Nord-Alarm is part of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

Chubb Nord-Alarm was awarded the $2 million contract in 2007. Among the many challenges the team faced was determining the type of detectors needed to handle the building’s four different temperature regions.  Additional equipment needs included an extensive intruder detection system, and equipping the building with a sophisticated electro-acoustic alarm in accordance with the Bremerhaven fire department regulations.  Klimahaus also required radio communication capability and an escape door control system, along with an electronic closure system, and an SAT reception system.

Developers of the glass-enclosed 12,000 square meter Klimahaus expect up to 600,000 visitors annually. The overall project cost is estimated at about 100-million Euros ($US 130 million).

The Klimahaus museum was designed to provide visitors with a deeper understanding of the fundamentals of the earth’s climate and how they can contribute to protecting the environment.

The museum will refresh its information on a continuing basis through partnerships with the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research, the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology and the Deutscher Wetterdienst (German Meteorological Service).
